Calling for the Minister for Agriculture to ask Larry Murrin to step aside from his role as chair of Board Bia.

I attended a packed meeting of farmers from across Carlow in the Dolmen Hotel on Sunday. The meeting was convened to discuss the reputational damage being inflicted upon Board Bia while Larry Murrin continues to be chair of the board while importing Brazilian beef. At the meeting, all councillors agreed to an emergency motion being put before the monthly meeting of Carlow County Council the next day. I was happy to propose the motion calling on “Minister for Agriculture, Taoiseach, and Tánaiste to intervene in the Board Bia dispute and ask its chairman Larry Murrin to step aside”. The motion was passed unanimously. Farmers support Board Bia but they have lost confidence in the organisation and will continue to for as long as Larry Murrin remains.
